EcoFlow | portable power sources
In recent years, the meteoric rise of portable power generators has put many new companies in the spotlight.
One such company, EcoFlow, has been in the media spotlight for the past five years, and not by accident.
EcoFlow is a battery manufacturer based in San Francisco. Their factory is located in Shenzhen, China, where more than 80% of the world's batteries and computer chips are made. EcoFlow aims to be an industry leader in the portable generator industry. Their mission to "reinvent the way people everywhere access energy" has led to the production of some of the most innovative devices on the market.
In this article, we review the company's short but fascinating history. We also cover the products they manufacture, which have put them at the forefront of clean energy. Whether you're looking for a portable power plant for your camping trips or a reliable backup generator in case the city power supply is unreliable, you've come to the right place.
The story of EcoFlow
EcoFlow was established in December 2016. Their first product, the EcoFlow River portable power plant, was launched in June 2017 after raising over $1 million through a successful Indiegogo campaign.
The company was founded by engineers from the drone company DJI. Engineers worked to perfect a lightweight, reliable and high-performance battery for drones.
In November 2017, EcoFlow was included in Forbes' illustrious "30 Under 30 List" in the energy and technology sector. That recognition put them at the forefront of portable, green generators, and they've only gone from strength to strength ever since.
In 2019, another crowdsourcing campaign was launched, this time on Kickstarter. The campaign successfully raised over $5 million for their new product, the EcoFlow Delta 1300. The Delta has since gone into production, and the internet is now filled with rave reviews from camping and generator enthusiasts.
X-STREAM technology
All EcoFlow devices are based on the patented X-STREAM technology. X-STREAM recharging technology allows EcoFlow devices to charge 10 times faster than any of their competitors.
The company doesn't say exactly how the technology works. According to their press release, EcoFlow batteries use a sophisticated artificial intelligence-powered battery management system to monitor and control each lithium-ion cell in the battery.
Thanks to the X-STREAM technology, the total charging time of the EcoFlow Delta 1300 remains under 2 hours, even from 0% charge.
EcoFlow products
EcoFlow has two portable power plant families: River and Delta. Each power plant is impressive in its own way, we will try to briefly introduce the devices.
EcoFlow River
The EcoFlow River was the company's first foray into portable power plants. River is designed for campers and adventurers. Ideal product for weekend trips to recharge phones and laptops.
The capacity of River is 288Wh, which can keep a mini-fridge running for about 4 hours.
River is also equipped with powerful X-Boost technology, so it can also serve the initial energy demand of devices with high current consumption. It's light and compact, so you can pick it up in an instant and take it with you on your next big adventure. River's newer models - River Max and River Pro - mainly serve the needs of users looking for a larger capacity and modular structure.
EcoFlow Delta
EcoFlow Delta is the company's high-capacity portable power plant. Like the River, the Delta features patented X-STREAM technology for super-fast charging times.
The power of the EcoFlow Delta is 1800W, with a capacity of 1260Wh. The device has a built-in MPPT charger, so the EcoFlow Delta 1300 is compatible with solar panels right out of the box.
The generator is larger and heavier than the River, but has more than four times the capacity and twice the 220V sockets.
